1. Hybrid Skill Checks
These occur whenever an action requires two or more skills to complete. Climbing is a good example - a hybrid skill of strength and dexterity. These skill checks work like a normal skill check, except that they are done on the average of the hybrid skills. For example, if I wanted to climb a wall, I would take my strength (6) and my dexterity (8), and take the mean average of them (7). I then perform a normal skill check on this new stat.
There is no list of which skills are hybrids - it is down to the adventure master to decide. You may even decide to make climbing not a hybrid skill.
2. Clashes
These occur whenever a player or npc attempts to do something, and another player or npc attempts to stop them. For example, if I wanted to attack someone, and Talos attempted to hold me back. Each person involved rolls 2d6 and adds the specific stat, in this case, strength. Whoever rolls higher wins the clash and their attempt succeeds. In this example, if Talos were to win the clash, he would successfully hold me back. However, if I win, I must still roll for my attack - I have merely broken free of Talos' grip.
