1. Roleplaying
Roleplaying is acting out or performing the part of a person or character. There are two easy things to remember whilst roleplaying a character. Number one is to remember when doing such things as entering a tavern, searching a cave or taunting your enemy to do what your character would do. Number two is that you're free to do what ever you like. Wanna attempt to do a triple back flip off a cart? Go for it. Wanna try and throw a rock at a ship to destroy it? Knock yourself out. Notice I said "attempt" and "try" for these, this is because you will have to pass a skill check to complete these (extremely difficult) tasks...
Avoid 'power playing' (acting on information your character wouldn't know) as much as possible, to keep Eldyr fun for everyone.
2. Skill Checks
To pass a skill check, a player must roll under their stat on a set number of dice (determined by the task’s difficulty). For example, if a player were trying to pick a lock with sufficient tools, a semi-difficult task, they would roll 3 dice. If they roll under or equal to their dexterity stat, the lock would be successfully picked. If not, they would be unable to complete the task. If a player rolls all 1s and/or 2s, they critically succeed, meaning the task would be completed in such a way that there would be an extra benefit, for example the lockpick used does not break. However, if they roll all 5s and/or 6s, they critically fail, meaning that the task would be failed it in such a way that there would be an extra drawback, for example, the lockpick falls to the ground, breaking the deadly silence and alerting two guards to your location.
